Ok, I have been having trouble with EGR and Turbo codes showing up on my truck (edge tuner) it was stumbling off the line and I had cleaned the EGR recently so I thought it may be the turbo (0299 code). Yesterday I decided to pull the turbo off and clean it up. I finished last night about 10pm and took it for a test drive, I went about 1500' and it was sputtering and had no power, blowing smoke like crazy and smoke was coming through the heater vents....what the Hell did I do? I'm quite mechanically inclined and double checked my work as I put it back together. Anyone have any idea what might be happening? thanks!!!
You probably have an exhaust leak at one or more of the connections you messed with removing the turbo. Did you pull the DTC's before you removed the turbo?
Well im guessing you have a bad exhaust leak at one of the connections that you had to break when removing the turbo and from the sounds of it its gonna be easy to find.
I know I had a fight with the drivers side clamp. I can see the smoke under the hood but it is difficult to pinpoint where it is coming from exactly. I will try to tighten those two clamps and see if it fixes the problem. Thanks Brett for your help!
Be advised just tightening the clamps won't cut it, one or more flanges is missaligned. You need to loosen every thing up and realign the flanges. The clamps ill not pull the flanges into place.
