What is a good replacement plug for the V10? I have 62,000 on mine and want to get them out before they give me a problem. Truck is a 2008

Go to Rockauto.com and get the Motorcraft plugs. You can usually find a 5% coupon on the net. It has always been suggested to use nothing but Motorcraft in these motors.

2008 they use 2 different colored cops (brown or black) which determines what plug style you have. I have a early build 08 (took delivery 10/07) and have the brown color cops and new style plugs.

I put NGK's in mine. But motorcraft seems to be what everyone likes to do. So far so good on mine.

If I remember correctly the black COP boots mean the old style plugs which have a history of breaking upon removal. I would go with a one piece plug to prevent future breakage. The Motorcraft plugs are still 2 piece and are suceptable to breakage.

The long rubber boot under the COP coil, all the coils are black.
If its brown you have the newer style one piece plug. (as I do). I checked mine at 48000 and all seems well. Be sure to follow the proper plug removel steps no matter what style you have.

AND keep in mind no one makes a plug that really lasts 100K miles---no one!

Swap 'em out at 50K and you'll most likely avoid so many problems associated with our modular motors, both V10 and V8's alike!

If I could have done one thing different in all of my maintenance, it was changing my plugs at 60k rather than 93k. I was told by my dealer that 100k on plugs was the norm.......DO NOT believe it!! When I did replace my plugs at 93k, it was a wonder that I still had all of my pistons in tact. By rights, my pistons should have had a hole in them from the huge spark gap from driving so many miles and hauling heavy for 50k of the 93k on the truck. Believe me, at 50k on the new plugs, my plugs will get changed.

I'm going to order some and change them this winter, OEM 2008+ one piece Motorcraft SP-509 from Rockauto. I think you can/should use the newer style plug also.
