If your talking about off the truck you will need a 6 volt charger with a variable rate charge low med and high. If you charge 6 volt on the high amp setting it will usually charge a 8 volt battery.
If your talking on the truck you will need to adjust the regulator so it will charge 8 volts.
If your planning on using 8 volts in your truck, I would suggest you find the reason it isn't starting on 6 volts and fix that. They start fine on 6 volts when everything is correct.

Hi Bill
Yes the 8 volts really turn them over. It also gives you very bright and usually short lived lights.
These old rigs started on 6 volts for well more than 30 years. Usually when the start turning very slow it is due to corrosion or bad connections. One other thing to look at is the size of the battery cables. Six volts require very large cables to carry the voltage and many times people replace the cables with 12 volt cables which will not carry enough current to allow the starter to turn very fast.
Good luck with your truck
hey larry ,maybe that is part of my problem ,a few years ago ,I put new cables on ,and the were not like the ones that I took off ,I never drive the truck at nite ,I havent turned the lights on for years, anyway ,I just bought a 8 volt battery ,the next time I need one ,probley about two years ,I will go back to a six volt ,and get the thicker cables for a six volt ,thanks for your help.Hey if I turn on my heater would that damage it with the 8 volt???
