My 75 Highboy, needs a front driveshaft. It has a big ding and slight bend so I'm heading to the junkyards to find a replacement. My question is do any models besides the 73-77.5 highboy use the same driveshaft? FWIW, low pinion 44, divorced 205, manual trans behind an FE.
I've actually got a really good driveshaft shop nearby, but I'm not looking to spend a lot of money on it. Its a 500$ truck, that isn't even on the road yet. 30-40$ at the u-pull it yard I can justify, 200-250$ for repair or replacement I can't.

your prolly gona have a hard time finding one in a yard, might have to get a longer one and just have it shortened, should be under 100 bucks to do that
A parts highboy showed up on craigslist so I was on that driveshaft like stink on a monkey. I drive an hour 1 way get there and the frame is on blocks, somebody has already bought the axles front and rear. The driveshaft is already off and the shaft looks close but not quite. The donor was a 76 with a 351M and C6 with a divorced 205. The shaft's tube looked about the right legnth but it had a CV joint on the rear end instead of a U joint. I said what the hell and paid the guy 40$ anyway.
I get it home and side by side they are not interchangeable. The CV wont fit into the yoke on my 205, the CV is too narrow. The front slip yoke is considerably meatier and longer than my original. The shaft tube is noticably larger around and about 3.5" to 4" longer too. I noticed that the slip yoke U-joint is symetric, where my old slip yoke has a non-symetric U-joint.
The good news is that the new yoke has the same width as my old one so I would be able to use the stock non-symetric U-joint. My plan is to take my new shaft to my driveshaft shop and have them shorten it and install a rear yoke deleting the CV. I didn't want to spend the money at the D/S shop but now that I have some beefier parts its a little easier to justify spending the money for the upgrade.
