I just bought a 97 Super duty that is a quigley conversin 4x4. The PO spit the front driveshaft out and among other things broke the mounting lugs off of the side of the tranny where the 4x4 shifter mounts. Has anyone sucessfully welded thm back on? Im sure some of you F350 guys have probably had the same thing happen.Ideas/sugestions?
should be pretty straight forward weld unless somethin funky happened with the break. if you don't have access to a heli-arc, take it to a welding shop that does. it can be welded with a myriad of other methods, none of which would be as good (or at all successful) as heli-arc.
like I said, heli arc is the way to go. heli arc is a colder weld that is most successful when welding cast aluminum and other "difficult" materials.
I've welded plenty of aluminum cases without any problem. . .that doesn't mean I couldn't have messed it up if I wasn't careful, or anyone else for that matter, but unless theres something funky with the break anyone wielding a heli-arc welder should make quick work of it no questions asked.
