Hello everyone
I'm currently buying a 88 F150 that has quite a bit of work done to it. 460 w/C6, haltech, 10:1, full exhaust, blah blah... It gets ~12 mpg currently, and is running a 3.55? rear end (can't remeber exactly, but it's around that ##)
Wondering how hard a swap to a 3.08 rear gear might be. I mechanically inclined, but I've never done anything like that. If it would be better to take it somewhere, what do you think it might cost me, on average. I'm just looking to get a little better mpg outta this thing if possible, and I'm thinking it should still pull quite hard being that the motor is built.
Thanks for any suggestions, I'll try and post some pics of my new truck asap
I would definately take it to a repair shop that is familiar with differentials. A do it yourselfer can get into a whole lot of crap trying to set those gears. And I mean it!
Cost can depend on whether you supply used ring and pinion gears or buy new ones. I should expect labour in the neighbourhood of around 400-600 dollars.
What size tires are you running, you may be able to get a little mileage gains from larger diameter tires. Later....:-)
