I have a 78 f150 4x4 with the 400 and c-6. I am looking to convert it to manual. I can get cheap parts from a manual 79 f150 4x4 with a 300-6. I assume the clutch pedal and slave cylinder will be the same no matter the engine. But what about the transmission? Can the transmission be used with a different bell housing? Should I take the transmission cross member from this truck?
I would like to be able to go on long trips with the truck. The c-6 puts my engine wide open on the highway. Would a manual from the time period have the same top end? What transmissions came in these trucks?
I can also get a early 90's zf-5 which is behind a 460. I can also get the transmission cross member and transfer case although I'd rather keep the cast iron np205. If I go this route I could just swap the 460 too.
That's a lot of questions in one post. Thanks for your help in advance!

Slave cylinder only used w/a hydraulic clutch. No F100/350 of this vintage came with a hydraulic clutch.
4 speed with 4WD: Could be either a New Process 435 or Warner T-18.
With 4WD, be prepared to spend time/money finding all the correct parts, then spending more time/money installing them.
Brake pedal is specific to 2WD or 4WD, A/T or M/T, with or without speed control, and...
1973/79 F100/350: There are TWENTY TWO different brake pedals, NINETEEN different P/B boosters, SEVENTEEN different master cylinders, SEVEN different clutch pedals!
the 3rd gear is 1:1 on the C6, probably the same in the manual 4 speeds. The ZF5 has an OD. The cost of the swap, might be better to get a gear vendors...
So I am guessing all 73-79 trucks had cable operated clutches?
What in the world?
You're planning to swap in a 4 M/T in place of a C6 and you don't know how the clutch is operated?
First you said it was hydraulic (slave cylinder). That would be just ducky if you had a 1984/96 F150, but you don't.
Now you're guessing it's cable controlled. It's not!
The only 1973/79 FoMoCo vehicles that use a clutch cable are Pinto/Bobcat, 1974/79 Mustang/Capri, 1978/79 Fairmont/Zephyr & Fiesta.
Here's the setup...you'll need all these parts including the 01508 brake/clutch pedal support bracket...pictured at right.
And...whatever M/T brake pedal you get...must match your P/B booster. Since there are only TWENTY TWO of these pedals, shouldn't be too much trouble finding the correct one!
