I got a 74 F250 Crew short bed with 360 V8 & 4 speed manual with granny gear & 373 rear. I am planning to buy a boat next year not sure on exact size looking at 30-40ft cruiser. Was wanting to know could this truck handle it & if not what would need to be changed so it could?
Hi Kalve, that's a nice collection you have in your sig.
A 40' cruiser is pretty large in my book. Looks like weight will run 9-15K lbs. Guessti-mated tongue weight would be ~15% or around 2,250 lbs.
I think the factory ratings for your 360 motor is somewhere around 215HP and 375 Ft lbs at 4200 rpm when it was new and that's probably a gross rating at the flywheel.
Here's a link on another site to a '1974 Ford Brochure showing it's capacities...
Depending on your options and what else you have it loaded down with it looks like its doable but I am no expert - just trying to help out. How far you plan on towing it?, how often?, what kind of shape is the rest of your rig in?
yea thanks looking to get rid of the T bird as soon as I can & pay some bills off & do work to the house. Like to find a 20's-40's Lincoln convertible next an redo with Lincoln V12 an do rod. But on the truck its got trans rebuilt to factory spec & truck has 30K miles on it with engine not rebuilt. But looking to buy boat 30-40ft cruiser an tow it bout 500 miles or so if i would have to go get it from the east coast. An then round town or so if I had to tow it small distance. Just checking to see if 373 gear & 4 speed manual with granny & 360 engine could handle it or should I make changes to the truck before I try to tow with it? An everything under the truck has been checked an replaced when needed all suspension an stuff is good.
