Hello,
I am just curious if anyone has had a chance to tow in thing with the new f-150 with the 5.4 engine? I would like to know how they would handle a pull behind trailer with say 9000# of weight on it. I know the reviews speak highly of it capabilites but has anyone here towed a serious load and what do you think about it?
Thanks
Tinman
I haven't tried to tow 9000# but that is pretty close to the limit on the 04 F150. The max. limit is about 9900#.If you are going to tow that much weight you may need to move up to an F 250 then there would be no question about it doing the job for you.there is a chart where you can see the tow figures for F 150.at the top of this page on the right side, click specs and follow it to the chart.
Be careful with assuming the 9000 tow max. It doesn't only depend on the equipment, it depends on the box (bed) size as well. Like Dr No suggested, follow the link above and you'll see what I mean. The tow weight can vary from 9900 pounds and down to 6800 pounds. BE CAREFUL!
Thanks, I see all the reviews about how well it handle a 8000# trailer but that was I suppose comparing it to other 1/2 ton models. Just hadn;t heard any real owners comment about it. I tow right a the 9000# range, mostly short distance ( 25 miles or so ) and on flat terrian.
Currently use a high mileage f-250 with the powerstroke and it does the job like a champ. I't just has over 190k miles and would like to get something a little newer.
THe F-150 sure looks nice and I know would ride alot better when unloaded.
Thanks
Tinman
