Situation: in japan (Yokosuka Naval Base) w/2001 F150 Super crew 4x4
Mission: Keep my newly bought (to me) truck on the road
without dealer support
Execution: search this forum of Ford Truck Owners for information
to accomplish said mission
Command
& Control: You will report to me

Sorry guys
Former Marine here with issues, as above work for the Gov as a civilian now stationed overseas in Japan, very few friendlies over here IRT my new to me Truck and I need info! My first problem with the new toy, I need a good cods scanner/reader that allows for changes to the ECU preferably something that would allow me to re-write fuel and ignition tables. If not, as close as I can get
next axel is listed as H9 EG: 3.55 LSD: This is absolutely worthless for turning over a set of 35's or bigger....I have too many friends with jeeps that think they are freaking F'ing special....Time to disabuse them of these foolish thoughts.
I need to have contact info (email) for the below listed people. Only contacts of good moral character need apply:
A company that offers said code reader / eprom flasher
A friendly ford dealer that wants money, and is willing to ship to a military base (can be a PITA sometimes) I would like a complete set of new gears of the 3.73 or higher gears, lsd, carrier bearings, pinnion bearings, seals etc. for the rear and if available the front also. ( want a front LSD also if available but not a full locker, too much headaches for street use I think)(I know SIMP, SIMP) ....... keep it down dirt bags I will drive this in snow also....

As I understand the companies that provide tuning programs have very expensive computer programs and can drive EPROM burners and ability to generate files to load into a tuner per the version of the stock PCM.
You need to get some understanding of the PCM control program because if you go out of limits, issues are generated.
For example take the shift routines; there are lines in program that have data loaded that affect shift speeds and rpm for both upshifts and down shifts.
If those data sets are too close togather the trans will hunt up and down if the settings are too close in value such that the PCM can't always decide correctly what to do with trans shifting per the throttle position and road speed etc.
This is only one example how critical it can get and why it pays to understand these relationships.
Another thing that can happen is program corruption.
If that happens your dead in the water as they stay until a dealer or some other source can reflash the PCM, then you start all over again..
Lots of possible fun.
I would begin by contacting a company called TROYER PERFORMANCE to discuss what you want to do.
For a Scanner, any mid grade will do a lot for looking at live data but can't make any changes or talk to the PCM other than change mode channels.
Requesting routine program actions requires you go upward to a program that has those capabilities usually from a computer.
This is just a limited amount of comment and hope you find the support level you want.
Thank you for your service to out country.
Good luck.
thanks for the info, up until now I have used stand alone ECU's for car racing (on the track of course) never had to deal with the transmission tuning but am interested in learning.
So I guess the next question is does anybody offer a stand alone? I think that I could use a greddy piggy back as it can be configured for any engine up to a V-10, or maybe an AEM or Haltech stand alone, but I am not sure if any of them offer maps of tables that control the transmission. I know that the HKS FCONV pro can offer transmission tuning for some of the Japanese sports luxury cars but that would deffinitly not be plug and play in the case. would prefer a plug and play stand alone as I absolutely hate rewireing ECU's

Guess I might have to search for that company you mentioned to see what they offer...

Baumann Engineering may be able to help with the transmission because they have offered a stand alone controller for quite a few years.
You might also inquire of FAST Engineering for a stand alone ECM unit.
We have one running a 5L in a Cobra Kit car but the trans is a 4 speed manuel.
We also have some outside timing control on a 5.7L running a Vortech blower and boost/electric controlled fuel pump pressure to the injectors.
I know there are ignition systems for the 4.6/5.4L motors, carb intake manifolds etc so you would need the stand alone trans controller for that type setup.
Good luck.
