Need help in purchasing my first Ford!
First post here and I feel like it will be the first of many more to come in these next few years. I felt like it would be an appropriate post to start things off on this forum by getting help in buying my first Ford truck.

I plan on buying an older truck as something for me to learn on and of course, cherish for years to come. I want it to be something I don't have to really worry about initially and it becomes something that just sits in the garage the first few months. But it'll be something I can learn on and tinker with each weekend and drive during the week. I found one on a CG ad and would like to here some input on it's value/price and if it would be an appropriate truck for what I'm looking for.
I've got books being mailed in, I've been trying to do my research, and I plan on this being a long-term commitment.
Appreciate any help I can get!

Here is the ad:

New seat; cushion and covered.
All lights work inside and out.

It's really a great truck. I'm selling it because I'm trying to put my wife through school and we just really don't need this toy anymore. Cash only. Title in hand. Just passed smog test last month. Make me an offer, Price is not firm but I'm not in a hurry to sell either. This is my daily driver, I get between 11-14 mpg. The longer I keep it, the more work I'm going to do to it and the list above will keep getting longer and the price is going to keep going up!"
The only advice I can give is this: Buying another's project is likely still going to be a project. I would say 9/10 times they are not complete and need work. Even if the truck needed no work, most owners want to personalize the vehicle to their likings.
The second is that no matter how good the condition appears to be, the age of the vehicle always takes it's toll. Even if it was garage kept and only had 50,000 miles on it, the rubber has still aged. This includes tires, braking components, hoses and seals and gaskets.
The third that I would recommend is to be prepared to do a safety overhaul. With every vehicle I have purchased used, I have the vehicle inspected even if it is not required. I also install new brake pads/shoes, disks/drums, and inspect/replace ALL braking components and any seat belts/air bags and any other safety pieces.
Other than that, it sounds like a solid deal. These trucks are fun, as I owned a 79' F-100. It could haul and tow EVERYTHING I could throw at it. Unfortunately due to college, a new job and moving, I had to sell it.
Good Luck!
