The rear side-to-side brake line on my 2002 Expedition corroded and has multiple holes. I fear the front-to-back line behind the fuel tank is also shot, as I see a trail of fluid down the outside wall of the tank. My truck is not drivable. I had my parts guy at work attempt to get the lines through our local Ford dealer, however, both lines are obsolete and unavailable anywhere nationwide through a Ford dealership. Means the lines need to be custom made. I called my local repair facility I've used for close to 20 years and they quoted me, sight unseen, approximately $400-$500 to replace the lines, more if they need to drop the fuel tank. I saw online that places like Napa carry pre-made brake lines with the fittings already in place. I'd just have to measure what lengths I need and they'd sell me a pre-made line close to what I need. Problem is, I don't have the time to devote to replacing the lines for a good 2 weeks. Is $500 a fair price to do this job? I wanted to do the job myself this week, but now that everything has to be custom made, I don't have the time to do all that work. Input, suggestions??
It doesn't seem unreasonable to me. I am assuming this includes bending the lines like oem and replacing both lines. The brakes are going to need to be bled after the lines are replaced.
I replaced the line running front to back and the side to side one in 2 hours, custom bending them. Then about 10 minutes to bleed the brakes and I was done. I did it laying on a creeper, they'll be doing it using a lift which should take less time, not more.
