Big Bear

I haven't had a chance to get up to Big Bear yet, but I'll probably go this fall.

Ken, I hope that didn't do any permenant damage to your forehead! It looks like you hit the windshield.

Ironbelly,

How many trees are dead in Big Bear from the bark beetles? I lost every single pine tree on my property. Edison cut them all down last week. I have one cedar left. It is very depressing.

I worked up there 2000-2003 doing cable rebuild. Matter of fact my F-800 didnt like it when it snowed. Sucker would slide all over the road. Nothing like 30,000 lbs of truck coming down Rim of the World just barely under control. Got lucky while there never had an accident because of weather or any other reason. Just glad the job is done and I'm outta there. Nice place when you dont have to work or drive in the snow.

Hi, JimandMandy.
That's terrible. It's sad, what's happening to our forrest. Within B B Valley, there are quite a few large patches of dead and dying pines. Not quite as bad, but, bad enough. It sounds like your area is hit hard. Going down HWY 38, the other way, through Angelus Oaks to Forrest Falls to the Santa Ana River is so dead, there are brown mountains where there used to be green ones. That area is hit hard too.
I'm not looking forward to the outcome of this. It's ugly.
We're expecting a "normal" winter this year, they say, hopefully, that will help the ol' piners.

Trees are being cut by my place in Lake Arrowhead. It's unbelievable! Go out on my deck and see homes I never knew were there.
Hundreds more are brown and dead! kinda sad.

Hey, Ironbelly: you survive the fires? I saw the Log Cabin on the news the other night. Seems they were the only restaurant on the hill that stayed open. I'm sure the firefighters enjoyed the struddel.

The fire missed us..wheew!! Our neighboring mountain communities where less fortunate tho... Back to normal and winter has just arrived. It's still beautiful up here.

My 390 finnaly fired up. The swap was finnished just in time for the evacuation order.

I'm glad you are back up there. I won't return to Running Springs until 330 is open, hopefully soon. It is hard to get specific information, as I am not in or near an evacuation center. Is there a good website?
