I have an '89 F-250 with 460 and ZF 5-speed. Clutch, slave, and master cylinder were all replaced less than 3 years (20,000 miles) ago. I was having some issues with it being difficult to put into gear. Also the clutch begins to engage almost immediately when I release from the firewall. I figured I may have some air in the system so I bled the system using the weird procedure in the shop manual and now I have no pressure at all. Clutch goest to the floor easily and just stays there. I took everything apart and tried again, but same issue.
I read a forum that recommended taking the slave off and depressing it by hand to pump air out of the hydraulic system. I ended up just blowing brake fluid out of the clutch master cylinder all over my engine compartment.
Well I tried again and got the clutch back to where it was so at least the truck is drivable for the time being. I had a friend press on the clutch while I looked at the firewall. I didn't see any flexing.
I think the problem may be the bushing for the clutch pedal. The pedal has a bit of free play (slop) in it. Also I had problems with my starter interlock not working unless the pedal was mashed to the floor with prodigious force. I ended up bypassing the switch. Any thoughts on that?
