Help!!!!!!!!!!

Hey all, well Going on vaca in 2 weeks and low and behold my turbo is making a squealing sound at high rpm's. At idle is fine. Any experience and/or advise is much needed and appreciated. any info on what the noise could be. Is it serious, can I make the trip from Charlotte to Detroit, do I need to remove the stock turbo. Steps in doing so. Any expected headaches, where can i get parts,I'm in a jam here fellas. Thanks a million for anything that can help.

Are you sure it is the turbo? Check shaft play and end play. If the turbo blades are contacting any part of the housing it is serious and would need to be replaced.

Pretty sure it's coming from the turbo. The shaft can move slightly up and down but not in and out. I don't see any wear on the inside of the turbine housing. Isn't there another turbine on the other side of the shaft? The noise literally sounds like a bad pulley bearing but Its not any pulley's

Yes there is a wheel on the hot side to. does it spin freely? If it does not sure what to tell you could maybe be the turbo or something else. If it is the turbo I have an upgraded factory turbo I dont need anymore.

The only way to full check the wheels is to take the turbo apart and inspect it. Nothing needs to be modified for the upgraded turbo. It is a turbo that was upgraded by Russ here from this site. It is an upgraded compressor wheel and housing machined to accept it.

Any tips on removing this turbo? I have never removed one before? does the entire unit need to be removed from the hat to the exhaust?

Dont necessarilly need to upgrade. Even if there is some damage it can be salvagable. You will have to get the turbo loose to pull the hat, or at least i did. But it should come off fairly easy. Then the hard part for me was getting the turbine housing off. From there check you play, but since youre that far might as well stuff a kit in it. I wouldnt run the 60-1 wheel unless youre running 15-20psi as it does sacrifice some low end.

If i am only replacing/repairing the turbine wheel bearing, does the entire unit need to be removed from the intake including the hat to the exhaust?

After this i am turning my ip back down. I suspect the high egt's may have fried the journal bearing. If so......lesson learnt!!!!
