I joined this forum to educate myself before writing a big check. In the next few years I will be retiring and we plan to buy a 5th wheel toy hauler to see the country from ground level instead of 35000 feet. Before we do that we may buy a bumper tow toy hauler to make sure the idea is what we expect. The question is which truck and what are the must have features?
I have drive Nissan products for years, SUV's trucks and cars and have been delighted with the quality, but their truck line is limited to the Titan which of course is gas only and a towing capacity similar to the F150. Obviously no good for phase 2, the 5th wheel.
So I am checking out Chevy, Ford and maybe Dodge although I'm not hearing good things.
My current inclination is a F250 6.7l, 4x4 or FX4 probably King Ranch. Now it comes down to what else? What axle, dual alternators or other available packages do I need? What I don't want to do is drive off the lot only to say ***** I wish I had.......
I've heard bad things about the Diesel engines Ford has used in the past is the 6.7l OK?
Hi there Mr. Pilot, I'm glad you decided to join. The new 6.7 was developed in-house, which wasn't the case with the previous engines, which were the ones with problems. If you're searching for a towing truck then the Ford is as good as you can get, I'm usually very un-biased (not being from the US) and I can say that without doubt it's the truck for the job, anyway, go talk with some of the owner down here and get your own impressions: Super Duty & Heavy Duty - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums
