Hey guys, I'm new to the forum but not to drivin' Ford trucks...had one in my garage for over 25 years...here's my question...I drive an'02 F150, 4.6L, short bed, super cab, auto tranny, 4x4...my neighbor had a 24' 5th wheel trailer i'd like to buy...it weighs 4500 lbs...my manual says I can pull up to 8,200 lbs of trailer but has no specs about the capacities for a 5th wheel... and I'm not sure what the difference would be towing with the 4.6L as opposed to the 5.4L. can I easily pull the 4,500 lb 5th with my rig...i also have the stock trany cooler that came with the truck...is that enough cooling for my needs...please help me out...thanks a lot...can't wait to hook 'er up and go ( except fot the f****king gas prices!!!)
Thanks for your reply bro...my main concerns are the shortbed turning radius potential issues and the 4.6 l power pulling a 4,500, 24 foot 5th...any thoughts on these issues
The 4.6 will pull it but the 5.4 will give you piece of mind. Do-able it is with the 4.6 but it will be slow and your highway speeds will require you to beat it six ways to Sunday.
Dan, thanks your thoughts...the 5th I'm gonna get is only 4,500lbs, but I hear what you're saying...gonna give it a try 1st...my '02 only has 60K on it and she's a great rig...kinda hate to think about sellin' her at this juncture, but we'll see how things go...may have to make the jump to 5.4L full size bed...appreciate your comments...good luck
