Wanted to introduce myself. I am retiring from 30 plus years of working in the HVAC business as contractor, project manager, the guy they call when others can not seem to get it done.
A high school buddy called me a few weeks ago to tell me a neighbor of his that also went to the same high school had his Dad's 1968 Ford, that had sat in the driveway for the last 10 years and he wanted gone. I went to take a look, it was all there complete and original, worn, but original. F100 long bed, 360 V8, and C6 Trans.
The next morning got the title transferred, and started the process of getting it rolling. Two trips to the wrecking yard for wheels and tires, and after some help from neighbors, got it loaded on the trailer, and drug it home. All before dark.
And now 6 weeks later, it runs, has a sticker, and drive good, and with a pack of 800 grit, and 6 hours of wet sanding almost all the rust stain is gone.
Looking for to be a part of The Texas Chapter of Ford Truck Enthusiasts
Welcome to the Texas Chapter Larry! I have a 68 2wd and a 72 4x4 and love that generation the most. I just wish I had time to work on them right now. Where in Texas are you?
Allen, Texas, but soon to be Copeville, Texas, with my own little piece of heaven, a very nice 30' x 60' metal bldg. for a shop. It even has hot and cold running water, a small living quarters for my naps, internet, and locks on the doors to keep out the riff raff.
Hello Larry,
Nice to meet you. Sounds like you got a steal on that truck.
I did at that. Got about 2 grand in it now, and it still needs tires, and at least 1 push rod.
The transmission is not shifting into 2nd gear as it should. It seems to skip second. If I shift it down into 1st, and then move it to second it seems to work like the old overdrives and does not engage as you decelerate.
Thinking it will need to be rebuilt.
Also thinking I will turn the 360 into a 390 with around 400 HP, and put shift kit in the trans.
As budget allows of course!
