how to downshift properly

Hey friends,I need some help on knowing how to downshift a stickshift truck. If u was towing a trailer in the mountains and u wanted to downshift, how could u do it safely without stripping a gear or frying a clutch or overrevving the motor???
And is it okay to downshift when ur not towing something like if u were going down the road just the truck itself???

Thanks for the help!
Dan

Sure is. All you need to do is make sure the RPM is the same speed as the tranny. So if say you're running at 1500 in 5th gear. You want to go into 4th, all you need to do is push the clutch in and press the gas so the RPMs go to say 2500 and let the clutch out. You want to be able to let the clutch out without any bucking or feeling. The smoother you can do it the less wear on the clutch. It's all about matching RPMs.
