engine rattle on start up

engine rattle on start up

I can hear a rattle coming from my engine when I first start it when its been sitting for a few hours or overnight. It'll on last abiut a minute till the engine warms up. What could be causing this?

Hmm, this sounds like a good puzzle for your dealership to solve. Have you made an appointment so they can take a look? I'm certain they'd be happy to do some investigating and get this resolved for you.

It's not a mystery. It's timing chain tensioners. I had mine replaced under warranty. Somewhat common on the 5.4 motors.

This can be verified with oil pressure test when cold.

The dealer performed the work under warranty. Sorry.

here is some advice.. GET IT APART FAST.. Mine did it.. I took it to dealer he said HEY no big deal drive it it is OK.... BS it had a broken guide that then went into the motor and RUINED it.. The dealer loved it as he said.. " you need a replacement motor" IDIOTS.. they wanted 10k.. I ditched the truck( of course FULL disclosure to new owner)
