I noticed a couple of days ago the front drivers side was lifted way to high. I found the front drivers side height sensor had froze up. So I bought a new one from Autozone and after installing it, it just incrmentally dropped until it bottomed out on that side. I thought maybe I got a faulty one, so I took it back for a replacment. Got the replacment today and its doing the same thing. My question is, does it require some kind of calibratrion? Is it possible an aftermarket part will not work for this. One more thing I noticed. It says on Autozone's computer that this part will work on either side. I seen Ford has different part numbers for each side. There is a non Autozone part number etched into the plastic. I typed it in and found that is is for the passenger side. I need the drivers side. I dont believe there is a problem with the wiring because I can plug in the old broke sensor and it will start lifting.
I would think the only difference between the two sides would be the mounting design. The sensor itself is just a glorified variable resistor. Have you tried connecting the plug to the sensor and manually moving the sensor to see if it will kick on the compressor and lift that corner?
I did try that on the first one I bought. Nothing happened. I didnt try it with the second one. I took it back to Autozone today and ordered an oem Ford sensor.
Oem Ford sensor came in today. For the drivers side. So either Autozone's parts are that bad because 2 didnt work, or it does matter that you get the sensor for the proper side. On the Autozone sensor, both had a passenger side part number etched into the plastic. It started working soon as I cranked up with the oem.
