FICM or Something else

I have done a lot of research for my 2004 F-350 6.0 Diesel. Which I love by the way. I replaced the EGR cooler and while i was in there changed the Oil cooler as well. After I got it all back together and started it. It take a little longer to start, maybe 3-4 seconds instead of within a couple cranks before. Once it starts is idles fine, once in drive it wont accelerate and as i drive it starts to accelerate a little better, but never get over 20mph and about 2000rpm. When i brake it idle rough and then settles once it has idled for a few seconds. There is some, not a lot of black smoke, but some. There wasn't any before. At first I thought it was the FCIM, but decided that i wanted to make sure. after researching I'm at a loss. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. The truck has 190,000 miles and is in Scottsdale, Arizona. Warming up isn't a problem at all.

THanks in advance.

Welcome to FTE!

I'm moving this one down to the 6.0L Powerstroke forum, the folks down there will have a better time helping you with this.

If you don't have any thing to monitor or code scan the truck with the first thing you should do is go get the truck code scanned.

If you are having these issues immediately after replacing the oil cooler then it's possible you have air in the HPO system. It's also possible that you got trash on the IPR valve screen. Another thing that comes to mind is the possibility of not getting the FICM plugs back in correctly.

It's hard to know anymore without any kind of diagnostics.

Thanks I will pull the codes this evening and get back to you.

I would check all the connections, especially the FICM and injectors.

Did you plug the connector on the turbo back in?

Connected Scanner up to the truck and got no response, Tried multiple times with no communication. Tried Scanner on two other vehicles and worked without a problem. Any suggestions? Bad connection, or bad PCM or whatever you want to call it?

It is typically a blown fuse. Should be the same fuse as one of the power ports (cigar lighter). I don't recall the # off the top of my head but the owners manual tells what it is.

Yeah, I often wonder why the engineers decided to put the DLC on the same fuse as the cigar lighter.

NCPartsman Thanks one new fuse and the scanner worked and returned a P2262 Turbo Boost Pressure not detected.

ACF6 Looks like you may have nailed it! Thanks for your feed back!

Check to see if the MAP sensor hose is hooked up or the nipple on the intake is blocked. It's also fairly easy to break the little plastic nipple on the MAP sensor.

Also check the EP sensor connection and tube for a restriction.
