Popping sound

Popping sound
6.0 diesel 2003 F350 Dully 4x4
Back in January you guys helped me out with a antifreeze leak on my 6.0 2003 F350 dully just want to say thank you for all the information I could not have fixed it with out all the insight.
I have a new problem I was towing a horse trailer and when i put it under a load like accelerating or going up a hill i would get a popping sound like right under my feet or in front of my feet you could see black smoke out of the exhaust each time it would pop. On the tank of fuel that it is on i had added an additive to the fuel that i have used before but had gone 5 tanks full without it. The additive is Lucas supper cylinder lubricant. The popping has gone away but is this a sign of a problem to come.
Ok I have been driving for a couple of weeks with no problems but today the popping is back i also get a rapping in the exhaust when i let my foot off the peddle, is this a bad injector or something worse, I don't think it is a valve or lifter that would make the popping all the time this only happens when accelerating. Any help or idea would be helpful.
