Power Steering pump - frustrations!

Hey all - have 2002 7.3 with 4" procomp on 315 BFGs with 10" wide Weld rims.
I have been battling steering issues for a while. Definitely wanders. This I can handle - for now - but what is really getting me is the power steering pump!
I am on my 4th AdvanceAutoParts reman - and the damn thing groans constantly when on the brakes and slow steering - I have replaced my hyrdoboost twice (AdvanceAutoParts reman) - even upgraded to a Red Head steering box - what gives?!?!?! I understand a crappy reman, but the odds of getting 4 pumps in row that suck? Do I need a NEW one? Suck it up and go dealer??

Thanks
Joe

They all make a slight whining noise, if you use Mobil 1 Synthetic trans fluid in the pump it shoud quiet it down some.

I replaced mine in 2010 due to a line blowing off, it didn't blow out of the threads, but I replaced the lines and pump while I had it apart. I bought an Autozone pump that happened to be a Ford reman so knock on wood, that's probably why I've had such good luck with it.

Thanks for the reply - I have been using Mobil1 synthetic ATF for a while now - probably gone through 8-10 quarts with all the replacing!

I'm on my second in 4 months, hopefully this one lasts. On the bright side, I bet you're getting good at R&Ring.

Maybe the synth atf is causing failures. My whines a tiny bit but never any gets worse and I just use regular atf that I got at a garage sale. It's been fine for years.

I have a odd question, but does anybody know, which pressure our pumps
put out, or better should produce at which RPM?
I mean, theses pumps should have a minimum pressure line to operate
breaks (Diesel), Steering or maybe a hydraulic winch.
Im really interested in, because if I knew the OEM Specs, I could look after a better pump of another manufacturer and create a new bracket.
Mines start leaking again but still has enough pressure....and I hates to
renew a weak part with a weak part, again.

Subscribing to this. One of my pet peeves. Hope someone has some good info on the pumps. Even though mine is a 6.0 there should be similarities in the pump output specs.

Nobody?
I mean....all I need is a OEM Diagram or something like that.....
Otherwise.....does anybody knows the pressure of the steering?
Maybe I call RedHead....they should know it.

I think about a 3.5ton Mercedes Sprinter Pump should work fine. They re build to take abuse.

They don't really release this information, but it's probably 3-4 GPM at 1500 PSI.

you shouldn't have to do all that. There are many pumps working fine at over 150k miles.

Off subject but related. On the left side of the ps pump there is a line that comes off w/ a 90degree bend is that hose supposed to be able to rotate at the bend?

You mean this one? At the bottom of the photo?

That one goes to the reservoir on the fender. The other hose with a smaller diameter should pivot and seal with no issues.

Let me know if you want more pics.

I doubt that our OEM pump feed enough oil to move 37" tires, brake a
hydroboost conversion setup on a V10 and in the worst case can parallel
work on a hydrowinch like Milemarker.
For me it seems to be a problem
for the OEM pump to fulfill its daily duty on the pavement. Just my 2cents
Otherwise feel free to write me, what I have to do, Brent.
