Hey guys I have been battling with my egts for a while now and can not fix it. I just did a boost leak test and found my red tube was leaking so I fixed that with no luck. Now I timed the boost leak down and it started at 15psi and bleed down to 0 in 1:35. I could not find any more leaks anywhere. I heard a noise that sounded like a leak but I came to the conclusion that it was the air bleeding off internally. I have brand new bellowed up pipes and have checked the connections multiple times. Yesterday when I was driving I payed close attention to my boost, egts, rpm and speed. I noticed when taking off from a stop the first and second gears my egt would stay about 600 to 700 then when shifting to third and fourth then od the truck would lug some boost would drop and egts would become higher. Now the truck is unloaded and when going up a hill the truck starts to lug and boost goes down and I have to let off the throttle to let the truck shift then hit it again and the egts stay about 800. My thought is the turbo is not spooling fast enough to get rid of the heat. I do have the new rr billet wheel on my stock turbo. any other info needed feel free to ask. I also have a full blown scanner that I will hook up and record info but what info is needed??
On highway at 70 mine runs about 600-800* depending on grade and wind. The new wheel should help but I did not notice much of a difference on mine with the 6/6. Check to see if your OD is actually locking in and if you have any slip.
Check your intake manifold plenums. I was struggling with higher egts and found the driverside plenum leaked. Resealed it and now I get 21psi and much lower egts.
I cruise empty with EGTs at 350 - 1000 degrees, depending on wind, load, hills, etc.... Flat and level with no wind is about 600-650 degrees (sensor on manifold). The next time you do a boost leak test, spray around bases of the intake plenums (like Shanejet mentioned). Really look around with a mirror, inspection camera, light, small child, Quija board, whatever ya got. My leak showed up right next to where I installed my fancy inserts. Billet plenums were next.
