i found an overdrive transmission in the junkyard out of a mid 80's truck the other day and am thinking about buying it. i was wondering if this would be a good idea or not. i have a 4:11 rearend and a 3 speed on the column right now. mainy what i was wondering if the overdrive trannys were good transmissions, if it will bolt up to my 240 bellhousing fine, and is low gear going to be about the same as low on my 3 speed.

 

I installed a 5spd. OD tranny out of a 1990 F-150 into my '67 with the 240. It was a bolt-up swap. I still have low enough gears to pull the 21ft. boat out of the water yet have driveability on the highway.

I also swapped my 4.10 to a 3.73 rear end and installed the hydraulic clutch assembly. All made a WORLD of a difference.

ill probably go for it. i can get it for about 150 dollars. is this a good buy??
