Hey guys,
I'm back with a few more questions. First off is motor mounts. I thought I just needed the mounts off of another truck, but my truck had the front mount for my 300 and for the 302 it needs to bolted on the sides. All I can find are trucks with crossmembers wich are on 2wds. My is a 4wd so I'm kinda stressing that.
Next, I went to the junkyard today to look around at steering parts for a power steering conversion. I found one on a 77 ford that looked like it might work and it was out of an auto which is what I need. However, it was a 2wd also and the steering box turns the wheels behind the frong tires, as my 4wd turns it on the front or the side depending on how you look at it. So how hard would it be to convert that? Or is it even possible? Or is there a better possibily for a 4wd 3/4 ton. Thanks.
Do a internet search for Ford "Saginaw" steering conversions. There are Kits as well as drop pitman arms for lifted trucks. There are some "how to" sites if you are planning on doing it yourself or building crossover steering. Let me know how this goes. I was planning on doing this to my 64, but now I think I will try building hydrolic steering.
Thanks for that reply but I'm not really wanting to go into the crossover steering and such. I'll just stay w/ manual if I have to go that far. However, as I have been doing some searching on here I've found some other info on different options that I would like cleared up if possible. First and most doubtful is a bendix steering box. Is it true that if I found one I could just stick it in the same place as the other one w/o any mods and hook it up to my pump?
And second, if I just got a steering box from another truck, I know the steering column on mine is too long, so could I jsut simply cut out the right amount and weld it back together so it would be the right length? This would be more easily done for me I think. Any info is appreciated. Thanks again!
