Hey everyone. Once again my inexperience has led me back to pick your brains about my 62. My amp meter gauge is only reading on the negative side. When I start the truck the gauge is all the way into the negative around the 35-40. As I start driving it gets down around 0 to -1or 2. I see it fluctuate by one or two when I have a turn signal on and goes to the negative by a few with the headlights on. I can't remember ever seeing it go into the positive side. My suspicion is the gauge is wired backwards. I can't get it to read with the lights or signals on unless the engine is running to test my theory. What do you guys think and any advice on this? By the way, when I put a meter on with the engine off, my battery still reads 13v and around 15v with the engine running. Seems like its being recharged.
That's one of the best batteries around, a great deal. Your voltages are "in the ballpark" but it depends on what you are using to measure, temperature, battery charge, etc.
You shouldn't be blowing bulbs or boiling batteries dry on the one hand nor undercharging on the other. 14.4 or better at highway speeds? 15 might be a little rich, maybe not?
Like I was saying in my original post, the real concern is that the gauge never goes into the + side. The battery does well, and I'm just wondering if I should reverse the wiring on the gauge.
Just curious if the volt regulator, and/or generator needs to be polarized??? If determine possible issue and not sure of 'how to' suggest taking the truck to someone who is> Posting couple links on topic, may, or may not, be of any help???
