Just bought a 2010 6.4 with 51000 miles on it. Only had it a couple of days but so far I love it. Traded in my 2011 with the 6.2 and 373 gears. I know an 8000# truck isn't going to be a gas sipper, but that thing was terrible. Getting 15-17 comb. hwy/city in the 6.4. I've been reading about the dpf delete and thinking it's something I want to do. Mike Butler with 5 Star Tuning is local to me, so I can have him flash the truck and do the delete w/o the added cost of having to buy a tuner. I just want to hear from some guys who have done it and find out is it worth it, and are there any negative effects from having it done.

The negative effects it is Illegal, will void your warranty, and if you live in an emission testing area you will need to put it back every year or so to be tested.
Positive effects are less diesel in the oil(if you had that problem, some do, some don't) more power even without adding a power setting, and probably better mileage. Read some more on the tuner and what they do, in the end you'll have to make a decision on what to do.
You'll find that most that have tuned their trucks will tell you it was worth it.
I appreciate the feedback. Don't have to worry about emissions testing in SC. I was more concerned with whether if anyone has had any trouble of a mechanical nature after doing the delete. Everything I've read and heard has been positive. Hate to spend $1000 on a mod that will cause me to have to fix something else down the road.
More likely you will find that you are spending a 1000 dollars that will prevent you from having to fix serious problems down the road. The 6.4 is a much happier engine with a clear exhaust.

That makes sense. This is the first diesel I've owned so this is all new to me. I'm trying to learn as much as I can before I plop down such a big chunk of change (for me anyway). Sounds like it will pay for itself in the long run.
I asked a detailed question back in 2010 and didn't get quite the answers I was looking for, but the lack of On Topic responses supported my decision to delete.
Thanks everyone. This is all helpful information and seems to confirm what I was thinking to begin with. I just wanted to hear from some of you guys who have had or been around these trucks for a while and know a little more about them. I'm sure the delete is something I will have done in the months ahead. I already love the truck just as it is. Can't wait to see how it is without the emissions crap on there.
150-250 is about average for a healthy system. The truck will automatically regen after the ~600 mile mark as a fail safe. The message is brief on the instrument cluster. You might have missed it.
One more thing. I've put about 350 miles on the truck since I bought it and as far as I can tell, has not gone through regen yet. Is that normal?
Most likely you have had a regen and didn't know it. The message only stays on for a nano second. As you get used to the truck you will be able to feel the regens. Some smoke just a bit as it starts, others smoke a lot. If you are watching the MPG page on the LIEOMETER you will see a drop in MPG. you feel a bit of power loss and a kind of tinny sound.
if you think its in regen you can see by pushing the middle button on the info center and then the top button. the message center will roll through a menu of system checks, the last one will be CLEANING EXHAUST FILTER. if that's not the last one then it's not in regen.

BTW, welcome to the forum.
I would notice an odor associated with a regen too. Mine would have a little bit of smoke, depending on the conditions and, I could usually smell the regen happening as well.
