PO said he put a ceramic clutch in the truck. When I let of the clutch pedal I get a bad grinding sound and I was thinking throw out bearing but everything I've read says that it will grind with clutch in. As soon as I touch the pedal the noise dissappear so is this a problem with the adjustment.
I also am not sure how to identfy the clutch that is in the truck would I find anything under the truck to tell me if it's SM vs DM?
There's an inspection cover on the bottom of your ZF. Pull it and you will be able to identify what is installed. I would say what you're hearing is gear rollover noise. The DMF absorb the vibration from the engine. Single mass do not. One way to quiet it down a bit is to add a couple more pints of oil.
I've had my SM in for 20K and it still makes allot of noise in neutral. I've had my A/C serviced a couple times lately and the mechanics think it's a bad bearing LOL.
that's funny nomad...It's pretty dang loud! I'm pretty sure it's a dual mass but I'll check it out. The clutch is super stiff compared to my gasser ram 2500 but it's not slipping at all that I can tell.
I've had trouble shifting just because I'm a nancy and don't get the clutch all the way down before shifting...whew...so much to learn here for this newb...
correction. I'm pretty sure it's a single mass. I just checked it out and it looks like a sm. any way to tell if it's southbend or valair?
I assume southbend based on the look of the pressure plate. Are they different on the valair?

no way to tell unless you pull the clutch.
If its functioning and driving properly, I doubt there is a clutch issue.
If it sounds like a whiring vibration noise, then its the gear roll over.
If it was a grinding sound, something would be going seriously wrong and you could tell.
I pulled pedal box due to a squeaky pedal. Hope dropping in new bushings will fix that. I've also read here that worn out bushings can sometimes make the truck generally more difficult to shift.
The clutch is really stiff and engages transmission consistently but has taken some getting used to and every now and then I don't seem to get the clutch down enough to keep from grinding gears especially when shifting back down to a stop. but as far as slipping or difficulty gearing up or down, or going in reverse it seems normal. The gear rollover noise is VERY noticeable but the only time I hear it is in neutral with clutch out. Never hear it any other time. I think all is well just a few loose ends. Need to do fluid change on everything onces these mechanical things are fixed!
I found a link to what I'm hearing and it sounds EXACTLY like this and functions like this as well. The guys in my shop say they think it's worn gear cluster. The guy at garage says he thinks it might need a rebuild.
I am at a loss because of different opinions. Before I go tearing down a tranny I'm gonna try the amsoil 50wt oil in it and see if it dampens the noise a bit.
Can anyone confirm what they think the link above is? worn gears or gear rollover?
Don't put anything except automatic trans fluid in it. There is really nothing you can do about the gear rollover, if that's what it is. Mine has it. The only other thing I would consider putting in the trans is a quart of Lucas Automatic Transmission Fix. It is compatible with the ATF and is thick and sticky. I'm going to add a bottle of it to mine with my next fluid change. I also over fill my trans too. Instead of filling through the plug on the side, which gets you about 3 1/2 quarts in the trans, I fill mine through the shifter and put 5 quarts in it.
