I just keep thinking about kicking some british punks out...it was an epic thing if you just stop and think...i have been to colonial williamsburgh and it was a great way to see really where we came from as a country..
I've been to Williamsburg too. And, if memory serves correctly, most everyone that signed the Declaration of Independence was killed by the British. Signing that document was the ultimate act of treason against England.
As Franklin said, "A republic, if you can keep it!"
I agree to think about the courage it would take to have stepped away from England and formally declared your allegiance to a new government. What would it take today to do the same thing? The Framers considered it "intolerable oppression" that forced them to make the decision to declare independence. At what point would you, or me, decide the oppression of our current government is intolerable? Jefferson said the tree of liberty must "be refreshed with the blood of patriots and tyrants" every once in a while. Juicy stuff!!!! This will make good campfire conversation in about 10 days... tent-buddy! LOL
I've spent the last couple days reading the Declaration and the Constitution. What great documents! It is too bad we are so far from them now.
But the fireworks are awesome!!!!
I like reading the Mayflower Compact. It was also a "declaration of independence." I always try to make a big deal of holidays such as Indepence Day, Veteran's Day, and Memorial Day. I wish people wouldn't forget why we have these holidays so easily.
