To expand on the above idea, add the quart of ATF before you do the oil change, run the engine for a bit, then drain. You don't wanna be running a quart of ATF permanently.
The thought behind this, is that ATF has detergents in it that help to clean internal engine parts. Sometimes when hydraulic lifters make noise, it's because they're gunked up and seize a little. More likely though, since your lifters quiet down after a short time (mine do the same thing), you've got a bad lifter that's "bleeding down", or letting all the oil out of it, overnight. Once it gets pumped up with oil again, it stops making noise.
