My truck just started doing this recently. But the battery light will flicker and sometimes come on and stay on. The voltage gage doesn't ever budge (usually bout 2/3 of the way up most of the time) and it seems to be doing more and more frequently whenever if let off the gas, But whenever I get the Rpms up it goes off. My first thought was alternator is about to go. Just wanted to bounce that around first before I go replacing stuff.
Just very odd the voltage gauge doesn't move. I was going to take a trip this weekend but now am having second thoughts. Don't want to be out on the road and have that baby let go.
If it is the alternator are there any good ones out there? I work at a shop and we use Carquest and Napa parts, anyone had any luck with those?
Check the small wires plugged into the top of the ALT. Mine where starting to break inside the insulation from me leaning over the engine, had the very same problem. Spliced in new wires and it was GTG
Man you guys are good! It was that single wire aright. Doesn't fit in there worth a crap. I think I got it situated for now but I think I'll put a new end on it here soon.
Good deal man. Also i can add that i have napa alternator and it has been good for a year and a half now. I had one on there from a battary and alt store and it didnt last that long. Only had a year warrenty too.
Had some time this weekend to mess with my truck, and one thing I did was take the belt off and try to figure out what is squeaking. All my pulleys and accessories are new. Turned out my alternator is the culprit. It is charging like it should but just has a chirp to it. Not sure if I'm gonna take it back to napa or get a motorcraft reman.
Also check the big positive wire on the back of the alt. The connector is know to break in half.

Agreed on both! I broke the power lead to the alt with my fat azz this past weekend...
I've got noise somewhere as well Gabe, I think my tensioner might be getting tired, New belt stopped it for a while, but after it sits for a while, it comes back, then after it runs it goes away.
