What's the purpose of switching out what you have? My problem was that I didn't have the parts to start with and when I pieced them together from different trucks I found they didn't all line up. If you don't have power brakes now and are trying to upgrade to them, I'd source a complete pedal assembly along with the crank mechanism.
Sorry, can't go out and measure things up for you as once its all bolted up it really isn't accessible.
I want to fix the bell crank because it has the wrong pedal or bell crank. my power brakes don't work (leaking diaphragm in booster) so im replacing the booster. and master because it leaks. it has poor brakes anyway and the bell crank hits the firewall. it had a very poorly done repair made to correct the distance a tab was welded to the pedal to relocate the mounting position. the tab is very thin and in the wrong place (obviously because of the binding) I felt the best way would be to fab one to fit it properly. this is my new truck project hauler which is replacing my 99 3500 cummins so it all has to be in top pulling and stopping condition.
Hey PA,did you ever think of swapping over to hydroboost,Jim at hydratec builds these for your application, which is my application the 79 brake peddle assembly for manual trans, thats the route Im going,co425 just did the swap, just figured throw that out there
Ya. Briefly but it wasn't until after I had already bought and painted the new booster and MC. I already had a usable PS pump and didn't really want to sink more into the braking system then needed. Gotta get the truck on the road first, then I can think about additional upgrades. I do have four wheel disk brakes with the large calipers. Figured I'd give it a shot with what I have and then change if needed.
Did the bell crank linkage change between 78 and 79 also? They must have if the pedals changed.
It would appear that I have a 79 pedal but a 78 linkage. That's why I left the stub end of the link in place in case I end up with a 78 pedal assembly. Like I mentioned though, it appears to work and allows full stroke of the booster. Time will tell.
I hadn't seen different bell cranks for different years, but that does mean there isn't any different bell cranks.
You certainly have a 79 pedal assembly, since the bracket has the second hole up and towards the fire wall. I have looked at 20+ trucks and have never seen the second hole in the bracket on any pre 79 trucks.
But I think you could use that bracket with a pre 79 power brake pedal or a 79 manual brake pedal ( even though you are using power brakes). I think those two pedals are the same.
My apologies for the late response. Work has been sucking lately.
