bad idle
have a 1980 300 1bbl. when it is idling for 2 min ,warm or cold, it starts to studder. i look under the hood and i see gas coming from the bottem of the carb at the gasket . this engine has only 8,000 on it (jasper reman). also when you run it for awhile then turn it off for 5 min and try to start it, it is hard to start. the carb is only 2 years old. any ideas

Sounds like either the needle valve isn't closing for whatever reason, or the accelerator pump diaphragm ("power valve") is ruptured. Either way, you need to rebuild it. When you buy the rebuild kit, read thru the instructions a couple of times and circle or highlight the sections that apply to your carb, and take notes of the gauge sizes you'll need to set everything. For the float setting, you usually use a specific drill bit as a gauge, so buy them before you start.
