Hi guys,I'm new here....just got my 2008 e350 a few weeks ago...my recommended tires are 245/75 r16 but I have 225/75r16 installed right now, previous owner said the 225/75 worked for him.....thinking of replacing my tires in a few months....will using the 225/75r16 for now affect my vans handling and loading?
the 225s are narrower and shorter than the 245s. check the load rating on the tires, make sure they're rated for at least the amount of weight you plan to be carrying. if the tire size starts with a P, you don't want them. if it starts with LT, you're in the right place, but still check their load range.
an e350 should have load range E tires, which will be rated for 80 PSI and a load somewhere in the ballpark of 3000# per tire.
in general, close counts on the size, they won't do anything bad to your rig, as long as they're made for the weight.
Hi joshofalltrades....The 225/75 tires are LT tires with load range E,rated at 2,680 lbs at 80 psi. Is it safe to use assuming I'll have 6 adults and 4 kids as passengers plus some luggage? Isn't 80 psi so high?
those will be just fine for you. ideal tire pressure depends on the current load on the tires, which my van is heavy and requires 80PSI. running as light as you are, you can probably air them down to around 60 for a bit of a softer ride.
