Pulled light switch and checked rheostat and spring.

Did you check the spring on rheostat to make sure it was connected. My was hard to see but broke on one end. Solder it back on and still works good, switch was less than a year old.

Yes I did. I even went as far as to buy a new one from parts store since it was only a $20 part. Symptoms stayed the same with both switches.

I think the issue is in the plug between the wiring harness and dash. Not sure if I should spray some wd40 and see if that cleans it some or attempt to find a new plug and replice it in.

WD 40 won't hurt it, used on car stereo equipment all the time when I work at a shop. Cheap replacement for electronic cleaner

If you still have it I would welcome trying a new plug - thanks.

Buy Dorman - Conduct-Tite 9-Wire Truck Light Headlamp Switch 85851 at Advance Auto Parts

I would be glad to send you the switch but I did find one at advance that is new. Might be quicker and you would have a new piece verse one 40 years old. Let me know don't care either way, can send it to you if you want it.

Thanks. Unfortunately the one I think is bad is the one that connects the instrument cluster to the wiring harness. Male and female.

Is the male piece a white plastic piece with round metal like pegs inside. I think I have the male end.
