Is there any truth to the much rumored / highly anticipated 5.0L ecoboost for the Superduty trucks?
X2 on this. The 3.5 EB has shown how well a small displacement turbo gas engine can compete with larger displacement gas and even diesel engines. A 5.0 EB would be a very interesting engine for the SD line.
Tim...I moved this to the EcoB, "3.5L ecoboost engines exhibiting condensation issues".....this thread should be picked up by Ford Service like we planned...
I have a 2011 ecoboost. I had not experienced the intercooler/condensation/loss of power issue until recently. I only had about 13,500 miles on the truck. I don't recall ever having driven long distance in the rain until a few weeks ago. As many have experienced, I was passing a semi in this case, and experienced the loss of power issue. Luckily, I realized what was happening and was able to nurse the truck back into my lane and avoid oncoming traffic. My intercooler has since been replaced under warranty. I haven't driven it much since then, so I don't know if the problem has been solved. I want to encourage everyone that has experienced this to file a report on the NHTSA site. Ford needs to be forced to issue a recall and fix this problem before someone isn't as lucky as I was and is seriously injured.
My mom's 2.0 EB Edge just went to the shop for a code 299, underboost condition. It is still under warranty, but warranty claims will not agree to anything unless they know what is wrong, which I can understand. However, the shop doesn't quite know what is wrong either so the vehicle sits while it is argued out. More what I am interested to know is if there is a potentially known problem showing up, or is this something that is in uncharted territory? She has gotten nearly 90,000 miles on it, no towing at all. It wasn't doing bad on driveability, but the mileage was dropping off. If it hadn't been for the code, she wouldn't have known anything was wrong. It has a wheel bearing failure too... that isn't as much a big deal.
