390 machining cost?
Since the users of this site display such a wealth of valuable information I thought I would ask how much you guys would pay for the full machining deal including some porting and gasket matching on the heads and balancing. I have a friend who is a heavy duty mechanic and a fairly hardcore four wheeler(but a chebby man) who is helping me out with this and getting me a deal on machining and parts(I hope
) Oh by the way I'm in Canada so if any northerners reply then I won't have to do that pesky conversion on the dollar! Thanks
cyl bore: $100
line hone: $125
block deck: $40
crank turn: $65
balancing: $175 (dont go cheap here, this is a must)
heads: $350 (includes valve job, new guides, hardened seats, decking, etc)
I gasket matched myself, but it sucked. I'd probably pay $100-$300 depending on the shops expeirience.
There will most likely be alot of add-ons such as cleaning, waste disposal, etc.
Don't forget freeze plugs and cam bearings
You can do the plugs yourself, but don't forget the one behind the distributor.
Hot Tank $80.
Magnaflux $75.
Oil Mods $120.
Cam Bearings/Freeze plugs $55.
Sonic Mapping $90
Add to that the cost of parts (bolts/studs/chains/cams).... multiply that pesky Canadian conversion factor of 1.36 and your good to go.
