water pump fitting size

I am putting in a temp gauge and want to have the right fitting to go in to the water pump fitting on the drivers side of the pump. I don't want to drain the system so I want the right size for a quick swap.

IIRC 1/8" NPT

I would guess 3/8" NPT.
