The 05-up had the upgraded pump over the 03/04 trucks did. It's pretty rare for it to fail. When mine does I'll be putting in the BPD billet aluminum one as it's aluminum instead of plastic impeller.
Some aftermarket pumps have steel impellers instead of plastic and are not as expensive.
I changed mine a few weeks ago @237K No Idea if it had been replaced... It was a OEM one though. The impeller was not broken, the shaft seal went out. I replaced with the BPD.
03 with 160,000 mi and the original water pump. No issues and temps are fine. I don't believe in fixing something that isn't broke but I would much rather change it in my own shop instead of on the side of the road 1000 miles from home if they are prone to give out. What kind of life expectancy do these pumps have?
You should remove the pump and check the impeller. They do a dirty little thing that I call walking the shaft. they way you check it is simple look at front cover look for circular scraps on the cover. if you have them then when the motor gets hot the impeller walks out and scraps the front cover. you can also measure the depth of the blade and compare it to a new one. Any time I see scraps I replace. ive had a lot of customers that tow and have taken there truck everywhere to try and find why they get hot towing and no one could find problem. when they come in I go right for pump and bingo there it is. replace there pump and they don't get hot towing anymore.

Mine started getting hot while towing too. No leaks or other funny stuff just hotter than normal while towing. Replaced the pump and she's back to normal.
Pulled the pump and it had a very slight weep and no wear on the impeller or cavity but the pulley was cracked. Crack was on the fan mating surface just outside 2 of the bolt holes.
