I'm baaaaack...

Hey fellas,

Been off the grid for a while. All that fear mongering about HPFP's got old and it's nice to see no truly active threads about it. Great to see folks talking about mileage, shocks, fifth wheel hitches, fuel tanks. You know, all the boring stuff that actually improves the usefulness and enjoyment of these great trucks.

Three years in I can still report zero problems. My trailer is still HEAVY at about 18,000 lbs. We've had lots of good times in it and pulling it all over the west.

Long-term check-up: my only complaint is a little bit of shifting wonkiness. Not to overstate the issue though, it's just those low gears trying to figure out when to shift when the truck is empty and very light throttle. Grocery-getting duty. I had the solenoids replaced under warranty a while back but didn't make much difference.

Also think the stabilizers are failing as I've got a bit of wobble coming back. Lifetime warranty on those are a quick fix.

So, a low mileage user (40k) is still extremely pleased with the truck. Hope all is well generally with everyone else.

Epic, it is great to have you posting again.
It's good to know the truck is still running great.
I have 47,000 on mine.

I eventually had to have the transmission solenoids replaced in mine.
That corrected the severe shifting issues and made the truck better than new.
The only issue that has come back recently is what I call a stall when shifting between 2nd to 3rd but not sure it's transmission related.
Oh well, that's what ESP is for when it breaks.

It was towed once when the turbo stopped working.
Turned out not to be hardware but rather the PCM disabled it so I'll take that over hardware failure.

I expect the newer trucks have worked out the TCM software a bit. I seriously doubt that this transmission which is rated to handle 1400 lb ft of torque is going to have problems with the loads most of us ask it to handle. Not saying the one-offs don't have defects because they do. I'm still incredibly impressed with the power and reliability. Dealers I've visited with are still saying they just don't work on 6.7L powertrains very much.

Remember JoeDiesel? The Ford diesel mechanic from California who always bashes the 6.7L? Looks like time has changed his opinion. In this video he's working on a truck that the owner put gasoline in the diesel tank. Surprisingly, the HPFP did not fail but injectors did. The truck actually ran on diluted diesel although very poorly. You don't have to suffer through the entire video but pay attention to his comments starting at 1:50. Endorsement from an eternal pessimist says something.

I haven't been around much either, may as well say hello too.

My truck has 165,000, engine has 45,000. I had a turbo replaced too (bad bearing on some 2012 turbo housings.)

My latest development is trans slipping a bit shifting 3 to 4 under load in manual shift mode. You can hear a slip of a clutch, sounds like sliding a chair on a wooden floor. It's got a lot of towing miles on it so I guess it's normal.

I also got cooper discoverer at3 tires recently. I like them pretty good.

Looking at the 2014's!

Epic, great to hear from you...Glad to hear you and your family are still enjoying your rig.

I also have had the truck for 3 years and 45,000 miles...NO issues at all...I tuned it at 23,000 (usually run on no power mode) and have not had any issues...No issues towing my 38' fifth wheel toy hauler.

Keep them posts coming!

Thanks everyone.

King - you're my doppelganger! Just noticed your signature has a 2012 HD. I got one last year also. Nice Road King. There's a few thousand miles on it now that would have likely been on the SD otherwise. You don't happen to have a white patch of hair on the back of your head, do you?

Thom,

Where in PC do you live? That's where I'm from. I lived off hwy 390 for most of my teenage life. Before that, Lynn Haven and then in the condos near Tyndall AFB.

Epic, I traded my beloved 2003 Roadking on a 2012 Road Glide Ultra....Really nice ride...It will be making it's first trip to SD end of July. Roadking was there 5 times.

Yes to the white patch of hair...LOL Good to have you back man.
