starter issues

hey guys, my 79 ford f150 has been giving me some trouble latey with the starter. this morning I started and it started right up with no problems, but tonight when I was gonna go home the starter didn't engage it just spun then made a clunk when it hit the flywheel again. then it finally engaged but it made a nasty noise like the starter didn't disengage and kept turing with the motor. my thought was the solenoid on the inner fender. tomorrow I will pull one out of an old ford pinto wagon we have laying around and see if that works. any help would be great thanks!

Sounds like the starter drive (bendix) is sticking.

Sounds just like what mine did right before the starter died on me in a grocery store parking lot. People start looking at you funny while your channing your starter in the parking lot.
