My 76 f150 4x4 has developed a wobble and I'm trying to figure out what it is so I can fix it without having to bring it in.
Symptoms: Pulls to the right every 3-5 feet, it would be like if you were driving really slow with the front right tire going in and out of a dip every 3-5 feet. It shakes really bad no matter what speed I'm going at. The front right tire is losing tread on the outer side of the tire.
What I have checked so far: I jacked it up and tried to move the tire and there is no play in it and it doesn't lean in at the top or bottom, or lean out at the top or bottom.
I was thinking it was the ball joints but I don't think this is the case.
Sure. Have you checked for loose or worn components like bushings and tie rods? Get under your truck and double-check all hardware, wiggle stuff around, and look for any bent parts.

Any thoughts?

Do you have the big ***** for steering or the u-joint kind
To check front ends, I like to put the front tires on ramps so the weight is on the wheels. Then get a helper to turn the steering wheel left and right and check for play at each joint. I do it visually and also by feel. Put your hand on each joint as the wheel is turned and feel for any play.
