Can anyone with a 79 F-150 get me a measurement from zirk to zirk so I can get mine in the ballpark? I know it should be 1/8-1/16 toe in, i just want to avoid having to deal with the local shops cuz they all see dollar signs when I roll in there with an old truck.
grab 4 push pins, about 4' of string, a couple washers and a tape measure.
stick 1 push pin into each tire in EXACTLY the same position, both from the outside edge and from the ground.
take string, tie washer through it and let it hang from each push pin.
measure from string to string.
adjust tie rods until you achieve 1/4" difference between front and rear measurements, with the front measurement being less for toe-in.
measuring from the zerks is a very inaccurate way to do it, i guarantee you that the tolerance on a front axle production width is more than +/- 1/16" of an inch.
