I know this is not record breaking, but it is good MPG!
Left SW Iowa early yesterday morning and drove 13 hours of interstate at 3 MPH over whatever the posted limit was.
835 miles - 20.4 MPG
Now, is this exactly 100% accurate by the meter...well no...when I made my fill up, the meter said I'd used 23.5 and I put 24 gallons in. But, 1/2 gallon on nearly 25 gallons is pretty darn close in my book.
This 5.0 is getting VERY close to what my Ecoboost got for MPG....so close that I'm really happy and very satisfied with the 5.0!
We have a cabin just over 100 miles one way. My dad has a 5.4 in his '02 and I have the 5.0 in my '12 and we both average 23mpg if we don't pull trailers. It's all how you drive it. Engine doesn't make too much of a differnce in these half tons when it comes to MPG if you ask me. It's the the guy behind the wheel. I have a good friend with an ecoboost right down the road who gets 16mpg around town, I get 17.5mpg. These new trucks get great mpg for v8's
I have a 2013 5.0 FX4 with 3.55 gears and I've left the fuel milage meter running since it was new without ever resetting it. It stays right around 17.8 mpg for my first 4K miles of mixed use driving. I didn't know it was getting such high milage numbers on the highway...thanks for posting that.
On my drive from colorado springs to denver today i was averaging 23.1mpg at a speed of 80mph on the interstate. I hit reset on the mpg readout as soon as i got on the interstate and let it do its work. Not bad for a 5.4L id say. It held that constant for most of the way except for 2 hills i had to climb but it only dropped a few mpg.
