What cap, cap adapter, and rotor do I need to change my 1970 390 distributor over to the new style cap? I seen at Car Quest that there is about 3 or 4 different cap adapters that they list for different years. I plan on putting the pertronix kit in at the same time. What timing specs should I run with this(initial and total advance). What should I gap the plugs with pertronix kit installed? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Carquest sells Standard brand ignition parts, part no.'s:
cap: FD168
adaptor: FD156
rotor: FD117
you might be able to advance it a hair
plug gap: .040"
don't forget you'll need new wires to p/n 6823 should work fine.
This conversion works better if you bypass the resistor wire and give it 12volts. Enjoy
