I am going to be towing a 1986 Bronco II loaded with personal belongings and a motorcycle (estimated weight with trailer, 6000lbs). I have a 1997 Ford F-250 Style side with the 5.4L Triton V8 and class III hitch. Is this setup okay for a 300 mile trip up a mountain Pass? The pass is Snoqualmie Pass in WA if any of you know it. Not a terrible pass, but I need to know if any of you would try this.
I would check the GTW for your truck to make sure you aren't exceeding anything. Have you hauled a load like this before? I think your probems are getting up hills and stopping. If you got to go down hill I don't know if your truck can stop it. It's gonna be slow with that 5.4 I'll admit I haven't driven to Walla Walla so I don't know exactly how the road is. Anyone else know these roads any better???
The big hills are between Yakima and Ellensburg. Other than that the road shouldn't be a problem. I have pulled a load like this before, just not with this truck.
I am no expert here, but it is possible that is too much for that 5.4
You are definitely going to have problems going up hills. Do you have a tranny cooler? Watch your temp guage and be patient (if you use the truck, personally I wouldn't). Can anyone else add anything???
Alright guys, the truck did AWESOME!!! True, the hills were a bit of a challenge, but the truck pulled the Bronco, all my belongings, and my motorcycle up and over both passes and home in 80 degree weather without the slightest hint of a rist in temp on the tranny guage, or the engine guage. The truck has all stock coolers too. I'm very happy with the truck!!! Ford Forever!
