I have an '83 F250 4x4 with a 460. It looks like the harmonic damper is going/is already bad. The outer ring is pushed in a bit, and the ends up the rubber material are sticking out of the front, and I can see some wobble.
How critical is it that I replace this? Can I drive the truck, or do I need to park it until I fix this. I intend to fix it either way, but is it a right now thing, or can I wait maybe 3 weeks?
Also, I've heard it called the harmonic damper, harmonic balancer, etc. What is the most correct term?
I have heard it called all the ones you listed. If you are doing a search, you may find different stores call it different things. It seems the word "harmonic" is a common term for most to use though.
If you need to drive it, ok, but go easy on it. No quick revs, try to be gentle with the rpms, because it can fly off the center piece. Once you get the new one on, I owuld re-check your timing, since the marks are on the outer ring of the balancer, and it could have slipped the last time the timing was adjusted. Just make a note of where the timing is with the new balancer before moving it. Stranger things have happened, and you might like the timing better where it is now.
At the factory, a rubber gasket is placed between the inner damper and outer pulley, then the three parts are pressed together forming a one piece assembly.
Over time, the gasket age cracks/shrinks, causing the outer pulley to "walk away" from the inner damper.
If not noticed, pulley will fly off, taking assorted belts and etc along with it, may end up in the radiator core. Not pleasant!

OEM looks to be $72.53 + 7.99 shipping.
It's an Ebay listing Bill...
Often a seller will make multiple listings of the same item with related keywords to get more exposure.
I'd imagine if the P/N is right, it is the right item.
They have the same item listed without any reference to a Bronco.
Probably just some keyboard monkey working from a printed list of available stock.
Well, I refuse to do business with RockAuto and in any case shipping with them makes it as much as Amazon.
Alternatively, Advance Auto will price match RockAuto.
