Great site! I have a 94 xlt extend cab 4.0 5spd 4x4. It has been overheating while going uphill. I travel up a fairly good grade in second gear for about a mile and a half. By the end the temp gauge is right at the L in normal. I replaced the radiator(which had a slight leak), hoses and thermostat and the problem still occurs. Truck runs cool on the road even while hauling a load, never ever gets past halfway on the gauge. Problem occurs in 4x4 or in 2wd. Thanks

KENoo I tried the fan with the engine running hot, was after going uphill and the gauge was right at the L in normal. I could turn the fan but it did develop more resistance than when the motor is cold. So the clutch engages some, my question is should it engage to the point where I can't turn it by hand? And how diffucult is the clutch to change out?

If the truck is overheating when the airflow through the radiator is slow or slower than normal, like idling or going up a steep hill pulling a load, it is probably the fan clutch. I just went through that. I replaced everything before the clutch, and the clutch is what fixed it.
